Being an offshore reef, mostly underwater, Chinchorro became the last resting place for well over 100 boats and ships.
There are wrecks in Chinchorro from the 17th to the 20th century. Some of the oldest wrecks in Chinchorro are still very well preserved, complete with anchors, cannons, ballast weight and more.
Since the reason why most of these ships wrecked is that they made a navigational error and ran aground, most of the shipwrecks in Chinchorro are shallow, therefore easily accessible to divers of all skill levels. Many of the ships are also encrusted in coral and teeming with fish.
This coupled with the shallow, crystal-clear water, makes for fantastic photo opportunities.
We organize trips that are wreck-heavy for wreck-diving fans looking for a warm water destination.
